Joe Jackson(born August 11, 1954 in Burton-on-Trent, Staffordshire, as David Ian Jackson) is a British musician. Jackson is probably best-known for the 1982 hit song Steppin' Out, which still gets extensive FM radio airplay, and for his 1979 hit, Is She Really Going Out with Him? Although born in Staffordshire, Jackson grew up in Portsmouth, Hampshire, England. He started off learning to play the violin but soon switched to piano. From the age of 16 he played in bars, and won a scholarship to study musical composition at London's Royal Academy of Music. Jackson did not like the prospect of being a serious composer, and moved towards pop and rock.

Goin’ Downtown Lyrics

Joe Jackson

I could cool out
I couls hang loose
I could lay my head back in this comfortable noose
I could watch the paint dry
On these rented walls
Or I could run wild with the first wild thing that calls
Goin downtown . . . goin downtown
Goin downtown . . . to stand round and stare
And put people down for not being there
Goin downtown . . . and Ill see you there
But I saw you laugh
At that girl having fun
To show some emotion . . . just isnt done
You can look but dont touch
Thats as far as it goes
Youre only as good as the cut of your clothes
Goin downtown . . . goin downtown
Goin downtown . . . to stand round and stare
And put people down for not being there
Goin downtown . . . and Ill see you there
